Chanel and Cannes 2023

Chanel has a long-standing relationship with cinema and has collaborated with many filmmakers over the years. In 2023, Chanel partnered with French director Maïwenn on her film “Jeanne du Barry.” The film tells the story of Jeanne Bécu, a young woman who rose from poverty to become the last mistress of King Louis XV.

For the film, Chanel created six custom-made costumes for Jeanne du Barry, played by Maïwenn herself. The costumes were designed by Jürgen Doering, who worked closely with Chanel’s creative director Virginie Viard. The costumes were inspired by the fashion of the 18th century but were also updated with a modern sensibility.

In addition to the costumes, Chanel also lent a number of pieces of jewelry to the film. The jewelry was designed by Chanel’s high jewelry atelier and included pieces from the iconic Bijoux de Diamants collection.

The film “Jeanne du Barry” opened the 76th Cannes Film Festival.

Closing Credits: Generals in Cannes 75th Edition

The Palme d’Or was awarded to the Swedish film “Triangle of Sadness” by Ruben Östlund.

  • Belgian film “The Eight Mountains” by Felix Van Groeningen and Charlotte Vandermeersch.
